Disney is not slowing down on releasing new Star Wars films.

Tuesday on starwars.com, it was announced that Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss would write and produce a new series of Star Wars films.

“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm in a statement. “Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”

In a joint statement released Tuesday, Benioff and Weiss said, “In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since. We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”

This latest announcement comes about three months after Disney announced that Star Wars: The Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson would create an all-new Star Wars trilogy, the first of which he is also set to write and produce. Johnson’s trilogy is separate from the episodic films centered on the familiar heroes and villains we’ve come to love. Similarly, the series Benioff and Weiss are creating will be separate from both the episodic films and from Johnson’s trilogy.

Of course, this wasn’t the only big Star Wars event this week. Just two days before Tuesday’s announcement, a TV spot for the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story debuted during the Super Bowl, with the full trailer airing Monday morning on Good Morning America. Solo hits theatres on May 25 (the 41st anniversary of A New Hope’s release) and comes just five months after The Last Jedi had its release in December.
